A series of dual-cation organobentonites are synthesized by replacing the metal ions in bentonite with both long-chain alkyl or aryl quaternary ammonium cations,such as dodecyltrimethylammonium(DTMA),tetradecyltrimethylammonium(TPA),cetyltrimethylammonium(CTMA),octadecyltrimethylammonium(OTMA),and short-chain alkyl or aryl quaternary ammonium cations,such as tetramethylammonium(TMA).
